Green Hill Baptist Church

"A city on a hill cannot be hidden."
 Matthew 5:14

As you can see from the above photo, (courtesy of Craig Manning), Green Hill Baptist Church was forced to enter into a new phase in our history Monday evening when lightning set fire to the steeple.

Our sanctuary suffered substantial fire, smoke and water damage as a result of the blaze, and most of our electrical equipment was ruined by the lightning strike. The list of material possessions damaged on Monday is still being compiled and promises to be long, but it already pales in comparison to the list of things for which we should be thankful to God. Here's just a small sample of our praise report:

* We are thankful that no one was inside the building at the time of the lightning strike, and that no one has been injured as a result of the incident.

* We are thankful for our brothers and sisters in Christ at the Lion of Judah Worship Center, for their quick thinking in calling 911.

* We are thankful for the West Columbia Fire Department, whose rapid response almost certainly saved our sanctuary from complete destruction.

* We are thankful for the Lexington Baptist Association allowing us to hold Wednesday evening services at their building.

* We are thankful for the South Carolina Baptist Convention for all their help and support.

* We are thankful for our sister church, the First Baptist Church of West Columbia, and their willingness to allow us to use their facility for our worship service this Sunday.

Our various ministries are detailed througout this website, and though many of them will be temporarily affected as a result of the fire, all will resume operation as soon as possible and will continue despite the difficulties. Our goal is to update this web site daily with information relevant to our various services and ministries, so check back often. As for now:

We would love to have you join us for worship this Sunday morning, August 1, at the First Baptist Church of West Columbia, located on State Street. The service will begin at 9:30 a.m.
There will be no Sunday School or p.m. service this week. The deacons will meet at 7 p.m. in the Harter Building and the youth pool party will be held at 7 p.m. at the Levinson's.
Our Wednesday Bible Study begins at 6:30pm, and will be held at the Lexington Baptist Association offices until further notice.
