Louise Hill Mission Group

Louise Hill

This mission group is made up of Senior Adult ladies and is named after the Southern Baptist missionary, Louise Lewis Hill, who retired from the International Mission Board, SBC, in 1990. They meet together on the first Tuesday of each month for Bible study and fellowship. Here is some information on the group's namesake, Louise Hill.

She was born in 1925, grew up in the Depression, spent time in an orphanage, and despite heavy odds, finished college and nurses' training before going on to receive a seminary degree. At seminary she met her future husband, John B. Hill, and together they raised a family of four children and had a missionary career of 36 years in Nigeria, West Africa. After retiring, they continued to serve others in South Carolina and wrote down many of their experiences. John went to heaven in 2013, and Louise now makes her home in the Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center in Laurens, where she is raising more than 80 plants, gives piano lessons to other residents, and enjoys painting.
