|Dear Green Hill Baptist Church,
God’s Word tells us in Romans 13:1 “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.” We want to be good neighbors, citizens and mindful of the health of our church body, and therefore we have made the decision to comply with the Governor’s request to limit gatherings of more than 10 people. All in-person activities have been canceled through April. Instead, you will be able to watch Green Hill’s service on-line by going to our Facebook page, website and will be sent to your emails. (Pastor Don will bring the message and Thomas will share his musical gifts.)
During these uncertain days, let me encourage you to do the following:
- Understand that feelings of fear and anxiety are understandable at this time, but don’t forget the mighty God that we serve. “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
- Share the gospel at every opportunity. We are surrounded by people who don’t have our hope and live in fear. They need to hear where we get our hope and peace.
- Remember in prayer those around the globe who are affected by this illness. We will hold fast to our trust in the Lord and in the knowledge that through Jesus Christ, who paid the price for our sins, we never have to fear sickness and death because we know we have eternal life through Him.
- Take the necessary precautions to stay healthy by washing your hands and limiting contact to large groups. Call your family physician if you do not feel well.
Of course, during these weeks of such a challenge, you will also want to continue giving to your church. Your financial gifts make ministry possible. You can utilize the online giving option through the giving page of our church website (www.greenhillbc.org). If you prefer to use your giving envelopes, you can mail your offering to the church office at Green Hill Baptist Church, PO Box 6276, West Columbia, 29171 or by dropping your offering off at the church office during the week. I (Joey) will be here, business as usual!
The most important thing in this moment-as in every other moment-is to remember who we belong to. As Christians, we can live with confidence and joy no matter what is going on around us. “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but He has given us a spirit of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7.
We will continue to monitor the situation and stay ahead of any restrictions or quarantines that may be coming down the road.
